The department was established in 2001 under the name of "Humanities and Journalism", until 2013 it operated under the name of "Philology and Journalism". In 2013, it was reorganized as a department of "Language and Literature of the Turkic Peoples" on the basis of the departments of "Theoretical Linguistics" and "Philology and Journalism". On June 3, 2015, the department was renamed "Turkish and foreign philology". The department has been operating since 2018 under the name "General Philology".
Being the main educational-scientific structural unit of Baku Eurasia University, the department carries out teaching, teaching-methodical, organizational-methodical, scientific-research activities.
The department performs the following tasks:
Students studying at the bachelor's level of "Philology" are taught modern Azerbaijani and Turkish language sections, general and theoretical linguistics, as well as practical language skills, Azerbaijani, Turkish and world literature are taught in chronological order. He is acquainted with his life and work, and subjects are mastered more deeply by free work on literary works.
The faculty of the department teaches "Azerbaijani language" and "Azerbaijani language and speech culture" in other specialties where staff training is carried out at the bachelor's level of higher education.
Various problems of language and literature are taught in detail to masters studying at the master's level in "Philology". At the same time, the teaching staff of the department instills in graduate students the skills of research, study, analysis and application, preparation of scientific texts.
The department carries out training of highly qualified scientific and pedagogical staff in the field of "Philology" in the doctoral program of the Doctor of Philosophy program. Under the guidance of the scientific potential of the department, doctoral students and dissertators conduct scientific research on the most modern and topical issues of philology, their dissertation topics are included in the plan of research work of the department, covering fundamental and applied research. .
The department also carries out research work on various problems of Turkish and foreign philology, the development of textbooks, programs and various teaching aids. At the same time, the organization of scientific seminars and discussions, symposiums and conferences, the involvement of students in research are among the main directions.
At present, the department has 13 professors, 16 associate professors, 5 senior teachers, 7 teachers.
